What is the recovery process for mole removal?

The recovery process is quick and easy. It usually takes up to two to four for the area to be fully healed, filled back in with healthy tissue and slowly return back to the color of the skin. Full recovery will continue over the next few months as the treated area will continue to fade in color and match the same skin tone and texture as your surrounding skin tissue. We give our patients a gel recovery cream that they can apply everyday to help speed up the healing process and prevent any kind of scarring. We advise our patients to keep the area of the removal out of direct sunlight for at least a week after the procedure. After one week, sunlight is okay but we highly advise a strong sunscreen be worn at all times. We recommend SPF Elta MD UV Clear 46 . This is a great hypoallergenic sunscreen with strong Zinc Oxide that helps prevent any pigmentation or hyperpigmentation, or dark spots. We also recommend that the area of the treatment stay dry for 3 days after the treatment. After this, we do recommend keeping the area clean by washing with a gentle soap and water in the morning and night.

What are the complications and risks to mole removal treatments?

There are very few and rare risks to your mole removal treatments. For context, we treat thousands of mole removal patients every single year, and approximately less than 1% of patients have adverse reactions. For your knowledge, there can be some negative side effects which would include: bleeding, scarring such as keloids, infections, nerve damage (very, very rare) and/or recurrence of the mole cells.
