Reasons for Mole Removal

There are an abundance of reasons why someone would want to remove a mole. Some decide to get their mole removed due to health concerns, like skin cancer and other diseases. When a mole gets excess exposure to ultraviolet light it has the potential to develop into skin cancer. Why risk it? If a mole is located on a prominent area of the body, be extra safe and get it removed.

There are individuals that decide to get their moles removed due to the discomfort it causes in their everyday lives. For example, if you have a mole on your neck it can often get caught on necklaces. Constantly irritating the mole when putting on and taking off jewelry can cause pain. Others decide to remove their mole due to cosmetic reasons. Having a mole located on a prominent area of your face or body can really take a hit on someone’s confidence. Moles, especially raised ones, are a common insecurity. Here at Mole Removal Temecula we are passionate about helping people feel healthy and confident again. The safety, health and confidence of our patients is of the utmost priority.

RadioFrequency Mole Removal,
also known as RF or Radiosurgery

Radiofrequency ablation is a primer technique for mole removals and skin tag removals. This technology is not commonly found at other dermatologist offices or medical spas, it’s what makes us unique. Radiofrequency ablation, also called RF or radiosurgery,  is better than other mole removal techniques. This is due to the fact that it is precise and gentle on the skin. Our surgeon is able to remove the mole from the root. This makes the likelihood of the mole growing back slim to none. Other treatments commonly used such as cutting the mole, or freezing it off are harsh on the skin. Radiofrequency ablation is gentle and leaves little to no scarring, making it a great cosmetic mole removal treatment.  (results may vary). This technique utilizes high frequency radio waves to cut or gently remove the mole tissue. It is safe on your skin! Additionally, there is no risk to skin types of tan skin, dark skin or fair skin. It is safe for all skin types!

Laser Mole Removal

Laser mole removal is a common technique used by dermatologists and it is a great option for removing a mole, especially for moles located in hard to reach areas. With laser mole removal light radiation is used to destroy the mole tissue. It uses gentle bursts of light to target the mole tissues. It’s gentle on the skin and effective. There is also no downtime required and the healing is very quick too.

What makes laser mole removal inferior to radiofrequency ablation is that it is only effective on small, flat moles. This means that those with bigger, raised moles are not candidates. Also, it usually requires more than one session to be effective. The laser beams do not typically penetrate deep into the tissue and therefore moles can grow back.

Excision Mole Removal also
known as Mole Cutting

Excision mole removal is another technique that is commonly used by mole removal surgeons. During this treatment, a scalpel is used to remove the mole, going through various layers of skin until reaching the root. A scalpel is used or also a special surgical scissors medical instrument.

Although it’s effective it’s extremely harsh on the skin, leaving potentially severe scarring. This technique also does require local anesthetic so the process will not be painful. This technique also does require stitches, which is the major disadvantage because then you will heal with a line scar. This “line scar” does not heal as nicely as a smooth round mark that fades over time.

Additionally, stitches require more aftercare instructions, are prone to more infections and look unsightly.

Shave Removal

This shave removal technique is similar to mole excision but it is often left open and not closed up with sutures / stitches. The doctor will use a scalpel to superficially shave off a few layers of the mole until it is gone. The result is a pink round mark that is often deep and highly visible. A double-bladed razor or some similar type of medical grade scalpel is used for this procedure.

The pricing for this shave removal excision depends on the size, location and type of lesion being removed. This technique is not as superior as other radiosurgery methods as moles removed this way can grow back after a few years.

Like all the methods, only a licensed surgeon is able to perform this type of treatment. Nurses, physicians assistants etc are not qualified. Therefore, it is imperative you visit an expert like the ones at our office!

Freezing Mole Removal Treatment also known as Cryotherapy or Cryosurgery

Freezing mole removal or Cryotherapy is another popular technique for mole removals. In this treatment liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the mole off. With this treatment results are not immediate, it usually takes 10 days for the mole to fall off. It’s also harsh, so it leaves a blister on your skin where the mole used to be. Another downside of this method is that it has a strong likelihood for the mole growing back. This is due to the fact that sometimes the skin lesion is not frozen for a long period of time, which means that not all of the cells are destroyed. This technique is typically not recommended for the best cosmetic results, especially if you have lesions on your face! It is also only appropriate to use for non-cancerous moles because not all of the specimen or mole cells are removed with this technique. Usually cryotherapy or cryosurgery is most effective on lesions such as warts, skin tags or other types of skin conditions. The treatment has minimal discomfort for the patient and there is a low risk of infection.

Is shaving off a mole safe?2024-04-25T01:07:29-08:00

Shaving off a mole is a safe technique and it’s commonly used with dermatologists and at medical spas. With this method a doctor will use a scalpel to shave off the mole, going through various layers of skin until reaching the root. Although it’s considered a safe method, it’s extremely harsh on the skin and can cause severe scarring. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider to discuss which method is best suited for you and your case. Our office typically does not recommend mole shaving with a scalpel for various reasons. It is best to consult with one of our mole removal surgeons during a consultation at our office prior to making any decisions about treatment plans.

Can I remove my mole at home?2024-04-25T06:23:31-08:00

We highly discourage people from removing a mole at home or use any DIY kit to remove a mole. At home mole removals are dangerous and often lead to an infection. These types of treatments are never effective, the mole has a strong likelihood of growing back. At home mole removal can also cause severe scarring, which does not go away easily or at all. Also, there are many over the counter mole removal pens, creams and solutions that are sold in stores and online. All of these products and medications are extremely unsafe to use because they are not regulated by the FDA. They can cause more harm than good. They can also destroy the lesion making it harder for dermatologists to check for skin cancerous moles afterwards. This means that the skin cancer could spread unnecessarily and you would not know.

Some at-home dangerous remedies that are NOT recommended include:

• Apple cider vinegar
• Garlic or oregano oil
• Castor oil or baking soda
• Lemon juice and tea tree oil
• Hydrogen peroxide, aloe vera, coconut oil, iodine
• H-mole Formula
• Fibroblast Plasma Pen
