Our mole removal procedure is non-invasive and not painful. We use a local anesthesia to numb the area of the mole before starting the procedure. The anesthesia is administered by injecting the area with a tiny needle. This is meant to ensure the comfort of our patients throughout the procedure. This technique is very similar to the numbing that occurs when you get a cavity treated at a dentist’s office. This local anesthesia, such as lidocaine or lidocaine epinephrine, is a very common and very safe injection used to cause numbness in a localized area of the body. It works by blocking certain nerves in our body and is only administered under the direct supervision of our doctor. The effect is temporary and will wear off in the next several hours. The doctor will make sure that you are not allergic to these medications first, as well. While the procedure is safe for most people, the surgeon will take into special consideration pediatrics, geriatrics and those who are breastfeeding. Most patients who get injected compare the small little injection with that of a mosquito bit or small bug bite. The pinch is extremely minor and therefore offers very little pain. Regardless, our medical team will assist you to make sure you are comfortable the entire time. If you are extremely nervous, you can ask our surgeon about taking some pain medication before your treatment, but please discuss this with our licensed medical professionals before making any decisions.
